SMV Centre for Biotechnology

Under the scheme of vocationalisation of education by University Grants Commission of Government of India, Sindhu Mahavidyalaya introduced the subject of Biotechnology in 1999 at undergraduate level of teaching. Post Graduate teaching of Biotechnology(M.Sc. four semester program) was started in 2002 affiliated to RTM Nagpur University and sanctioned by Ministry of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra.

The M.Sc. Biotechnology course includes Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Bioprocess Technology, Animal Cell Culture, Plant Cell Culture, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. The fourth semester is dedicated to research project.

Since last three years, M.Sc. students of our college are producing 100% passing result and also standing in the top three positions among all institutions of the university.

SMV Centre for Biotechnology has collaboration with other colleges and universities and also with national laboratories. Our institution provides research facilities to train graduates and post graduates in major and minor research projects sponsored by college as well as government agencies.

Collaborations

Our department has collaborations with Alabama State University(USA), Banasthali Mahila Vidyapeeth(Rajasthan), National Environmental Research Institute(NEERI) and Central Institute for Cotton Research(CICR) which provide expert guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as research activities.
