Department of Biochemistry

Our department is mainly focused on study of enzymes such as amylase, lipase, proteases, cellulose synthase, pectinase, ammonia oxidase and polygalactorunase in microbial plant and animal systems. By using biochemical methods such as Spectrophotometry, Chromatography, PAGE, Agarose gel electrophoresis and PCR, we analyse and characterize these enzymes.

In collaboration with department of Microbiology we study fermentation.

We conduct survey camps in nearby villages and schools to collect blood samples as well as to perform routine biochemical analysis and also search for MODY related genes by extracting DNA from whole blood such as HNF-4-alpha and GCK.
